Mental Health Hospital Welcomes $12.4 Million Expansion
CULTERVILLE, Mich. – Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services in Culterville, a facility that offers depression treatment for Christians as well as other mental health services and treatments, is currently in the process of building a $12.4 million expansion that will add 26 beds and a new Contact Center to its in-patient hospital campus.
The new 35,000-square-foot addition will include 26,000 square feet for a new patient wing, 5,600 square feet for the new Contact Center and a main entrance, and will also include a renovation of an existing 2,800 square feet, according to MLive.
The new unit will be built so the beds can be used for adolescent and/or adults, depending on the greatest need, according to a hospital statement.
“As part of the hospital expansion planning process, extensive meetings with over 15 community stakeholders were conducted, which included representatives from health care, law enforcement, community mental health and others,” said Pine Rest President and CEO Mark Eastburg in a statement. “This unique research indicated that the need was greatest for child and adolescent beds, but the flexibility will help us meet the most crucial need at any given time.”
The project, estimated for completion in spring 2017, is designed by Saint Paul, Minn.-based BWBR Architects, while Holland, Mich.-based Elzinga & Volkers Construction Professionals is serving as the construction manager.
One of the highlights of the expansion is the new Contact Center, which will be located directly off of the main hospital entrance and will add space and improve the admissions process for hospital patients. The Contact Center will include additional client intake rooms, a separate ambulance entrance, a designated waiting area for children and a more welcoming front entrance/lobby, according to a statement.
Hospital officials are eagerly anticipating the completion of the project in order to meet the needs of the patients.
“What is especially exciting about the new unit is our ability to flex to the community need virtually at any time,” said Heather Treib, operations director of Pine Rest Hospital Based Services, in a statement. “Through careful and thoughtful design, we are able to accommodate adolescents and adults on the unit at the same time or completely flex to one population or another. The treatment space allows us to serve both populations programmatically, keeping adults and adolescents separated, but without duplicating spaces.”
The new unit received Certificate of Need (CON) approval from the state of Michigan through the application for 10 flex beds that were available at the state level. Pine Rest also purchased the certificates for 16 adult beds from Carson Health Hospital, according to MLive.
