Eaton Showcases Electronic Solutions at Healthcare Conference
By Roxanne Squires
PITTSBURGH— Power management company, Eaton, demonstrated the strategic possibilities through electronic tools for power management at the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) 2018 annual conference from July 16 through 18 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle.
At the event, Eaton provided a comprehensive portfolio of electrical solutions and services to help healthcare facilities reduce operating and maintenance costs, enhance reliability of power for always-on operation and improve patient comfort and safety.
“In an environment where the needs of patients are prioritized above all else, the right power management system is vital to delivering quality care,” Justin Carron, global healthcare segment manager, Eaton stated in a press release. “Whether it’s large hospital campuses or small neighborhood providers, Eaton’s breadth of electrical solutions and our depth of power system engineering expertise can help providers right-size their power infrastructure to make a tangible impact on their bottom lines and, more importantly, help deliver better patient outcomes.”
The U.S. healthcare organizations spend roughly $6.5 billion on energy every year – approximately two percent of a hospital’s operating costs, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Eaton helps educate managers of these 24/7 facilities to explain how they can reduce operating costs to achieve improved patient care.
At the conference, Eaton demonstrated various electrical solutions that include its industry-first technology, which extinguishes arc flash over 10 times faster than traditional approaches and significantly reduces downtime as a result from arc flash events, known as the Arc Quenching Magnum DS switchgear.
The Bypass isolation transfer switches, designed to maintain ongoing power and personnel safety during routine maintenance, inspection and testing procedures and the Transfer Switch Monitor 900 (TSM-900), allow operators to make informed decisions and facilitate system reporting.
A complete portfolio of safety switch solutions, including the Double Door line isolation switch, features an innovative two-door design that improves safety for maintenance personnel by allowing operators to access the fuse compartment with no exposure to line-side power.
An interactive demonstration of an Eaton Microgrid Energy System, combining multiple generation sources to help healthcare facilities ensure electrical energy surety independent of utility grid availability.
A broad range of lighting solutions including the LumaWatt Pro Connected Lighting System powered by Enlighted, a distributed network of smart light-emitting diode (LED) lighting fixtures with integrated sensing and beacon technology that captures real-time data.
Eaton’s full portfolio of wiring devices, switches, receptacles and wall plates featuring materials designed specifically for areas where cleanliness and patient safety are a concern.
Eaton also features services from one of the largest teams of power system engineers in the industry. These experts provide services for every stage of a healthcare power system’s life cycle, from design to build to support, helping customers to tailor their systems to best serve the needs of patients.
