Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital Holds Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
GOLETA, Calif. — The new Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital in Goleta held a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new state-of-the-art facility. The $126 million hospital was completed largely through a capital campaign, “Building Well. Being Well,” and generous community support, according to a statement from CBRE Healthcare, which provided Cottage Health executive advisory and owner’s representation services to the project.
After the Northridge earthquake in 1994, the California Legislature mandated that all hospitals be retrofitted or rebuilt to withstand a 6.0 earthquake. According to a statement from CBRE Healthcare, the hospital was not given funding from the local, state or federal government to meet the new requirement, so Cottage Health reached out to their community for support. The communities provided the support and fundraising campaigns and were able to raise $14 million.
The mandate from the California Legislature gave Cottage Health an opportunity to bring the Goleta Valley Hospital up to the same level as the other two hospitals in its system, according to Ron Werft, CEO of Cottage Health. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Werft thanked the volunteers and donors who made the new facility a reality. Their support allowed the facility to be upgraded and expanded to be patient and family friendly.
According to CBRE Healthcare, all of the inpatient areas at the 152,000-square-foot facility have been replaced and Goleta Valley’s new healing environment features private inpatient rooms. The 52-bed hospital was also able to expand their emergency services by more than doubling the size of their emergency department, going from eight treatment rooms to 20 rooms. The expansion also includes a Center for Wound Management with four hyperbaric chambers, six surgical suites and the Cottage Center for Orthopedics and the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program. The hospital also plans to open a new medical office in early 2016.
“CBRE Healthcare is honored to have partnered with Cottage Health throughout this journey. This new facility will further enable Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital to fulfill its mission of providing superior health care through a commitment to its communities and to its core values,” said Craig Beam, managing director for CBRE Healthcare.
The new facility is patient friendly and family friendly. Visitors of the hospital will be able to see a new Healing Arts program at Goleta Valley, which features 280 pieces of art that were created by Central Coast artists, furthering their commitment to patient care.
