Parkland Opens New Community Health Clinic
DALLAS — Parkland Health & Hospital System recently opened its newest Community Oriented Primary Care (COPC) clinic in Dallas. The Hatcher Station Health Center welcomed its first patients on May 19.
Parkland Health & Hospital System, based in Dallas, replaced the aging East Dallas Health Center with the new Hatcher Station Health Center. The 44,000-square-foot, one-story health center is located across the street from the Hatcher Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) station, providing access for patients between the hospital and health center via the transit system’s green line.
The clinic, which expects more than 75,000 patients a year, includes adult, pediatric, geriatric, behavioral health, pharmacy, lab and radiology services. There is also space for financial counseling for patients and families. The 60 exam rooms allow Parkland to add two new clinical teams and provide more services to the community. In an effort to reduce the need for acute hospital services, there also are programs that focus on education, prevention and early intervention.
The health center is part of Frazier Revitalization Inc. (FRI), an organization founded in 2005 that aims to revitalize and transform the Frazier neighborhood in Dallas south and east of Fair Park through economic and cultural development. Parkland is leasing space for the health center from FRI.
“With increased clinical space and a convenient location along the DART rail line, the Hatcher Station clinic represents a huge leap forward in access to care in the community,” said Sharon Phillips, Parkland’s executive vice president and chief administrative officer, population health, in a statement. “We are grateful to Frazier Revitalization Inc. for partnering with us to make this clinic a reality.”
Parkland launched its Community Oriented Primary Care program in 1987 to offer medical care throughout Dallas neighborhoods. The program includes 12 primary-care clinics, 12 school-based clinics and four mobile vans. The health centers offer primary care for men, women and children of all ages and include services such as check-ups, immunizations, behavioral health and cancer screening.
“We are pleased to continue our long-standing tradition of partnering with the community and we look forward to being a part of the Hatcher Station Village,” said Cesar Termulo Jr., MD, lead pediatric physician, Hatcher Station Health Center. “This is an opportunity to provide health care in South Dallas for those individuals who might not otherwise have access to a primary care provider.”
