BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — EMCOR Group, Inc., a company specializing in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services, announced that its Tucker Mechanical subsidiary has been awarded a contract for the installation of mechanical systems at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport.
The installation is part of the hospital’s “North Addition” expansion and renovation project.
Tucker Mechanical will install mechanical systems in a 64,500 square foot renovated area on the hospital’s main floor. Work there will include demolition of existing mechanical systems and installation of new mechanical systems including air handling units, a cooling tower, a chiller and associated piping, insulation, and sheet metal, as well as new plumbing for the facility that includes fixtures and equipment, sanitary waste and vent, domestic water, and medical gas piping systems.
“It’s an honor to again be selected to perform work at St. Vincent’s, upgrading and modernizing systems we initially installed several years ago,” said Robert Turner, President and CEO of Tucker Mechanical. “We have much experience with the challenges inherent in working in the systems rich environments of medical facilities which require adherence to exacting standards and rigid specifications. We’re always delighted to have the opportunity to showcase our unique abilities in these areas,” he said.
Tucker will also be responsible for the life safety and fire protection systems installations for the new space, which will consist of a complete combination Standpipe System with 26 fire hose valves and 1,370 sprinkler heads.
The entire second floor will be renovated and will include demolition of the existing sprinkler system and reinstallation of new fire protection systems throughout.
New wet pipe fire sprinkler systems will be installed on all floors, as well as a dry pipe sprinkler system to protect the ambulance drop off canopy and dry sprinklers to around outside windows to prevent the spread of fire.
The expansion project includes expansion of the emergency department and construction of an addition that will house a new cancer center with medical oncology infusion services, radiation therapy and an additional linear accelerator and fixed PET-CT scanner, an ambulatory procedure area that will house surgery and other procedure rooms, and a new cardiovascular center. The outpatient services area is also being reorganized.
