ROCKY MOUNT, Va.—Global construction and development firm Skanska USA has been selected to provide renovation and expansion services for Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital. Located at 390 S Main St., Rocky Mount, Va., the effort will include adding two new procedure rooms and providing two updated operating rooms to help the hospital meet patient needs and provide more services.

“This renovation will expand expert care offerings close to home for our community,” said Carl Cline, vice president and administrator of Franklin Memorial Hospital. “We are so excited to work with Skanska to complete these innovative improvements and meet our area’s evolving health needs.”

The 5,230-square-foot, two-story addition will double the hospital’s operating room footprint, providing space for more complex procedures. The renovations of existing pre- and post-operation recovery rooms, sterile processing zones, and pharmacy and compounding lab, will enhance the hospitals current services. The project will be completed in three separate phases to allow existing hospital operations to continue uninterrupted.

“This project will advance Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital’s mission to improve the health of the communities that it serves,” said Greg Peele, executive vice president responsible for Skanska’s North Carolina and Virginia building operations. “The additions and alterations will further enhance the experience of its patients and staff, and allow for greater care of life, a core principle Skanska strives to achieve in our work.”

The renovation and expansion officially kicked off in April 2021 and are projected to be complete by April 2023.
