DEARBORN, Mich. – Beaumont Hospital recently announced plans to build a new freestanding mental health hospital in conjunction with Pennsylvania-based Universal Health Services (UHS) – making it Beaumont’s ninth hospital once it opens.

The forthcoming project will provide much needed mental health services, which has been noted to be lacking in the southeastern region of Michigan.

Due to the inexistence of facilities like this, many people who are suffering from their mental health may have decided to CBD olie kopen (buy CBD oil) and use it as a temporary source of relief from their symptoms. However, with the completion of this state of the art facility, people can now seek out a more permanent solution to their problems.

The $40 million behavioral health facility – which will mostly be operated and managed by UHS – will provide a total of 150 beds, doubling its capacity for in-patient mental health care as well as expanding its day programs and outpatient services.

The most important feature around the design and construction of a UHS facility, according to UHS Regional Vice President, Diane Henneman, is patient and staff safety and security while maintaining a therapeutic and healing environment that preserves a patient’s dignity, privacy and comfort.

“UHS applies best practices and the latest construction standards to all of our new facilities to ensure that a patient’s health and wellbeing are first and foremost in everything we do,” said Henneman. “The facility will be intentionally designed to create a therapeutic environment that includes a calming color palette, natural wall décor and art, and natural light throughout building design, as well as ligature resistant fixtures to help maintain patient safety. We want to provide comforting and non-institutional environment that will foster the healing process.”

The new hospital will also integrate electronic systems including Telehealth technology, which supports both assessment and referral as well as provide care.

Epic EMR will be utilized and will interface with Beaumont’s existing EMR.

Furthermore, the new facility will feature a building automation system (BAS), which provides the Facilities team with real-time remote monitoring and control of a majority of the building’s mechanical and electrical systems. The BAS also provides the ability to manage and optimize building efficiency.

In regards to sustainability, UHS sets goals in regard to Energy Star Ratings and as part of that we install LED lights in all of our new behavioral health facilities.

According to Henneman, construction is expected to begin during the fourth quarter of 2019.

JJCA, an architectural firm based in Nashville, with a specialization in community healthcare, has been chosen as the architect for the project. UHS has not yet selected a contractor.

LANCASTER, Pa. – Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital (LBHH) has opened its doors to its new 77,000-square-foot behavioral health facility – expanding access to inpatient and outpatient mental health treatment across the region.

The $30 million project was prompted by a community health assessment from Penn Medicine Lancaster; revealing that over 30,000 adults in Lancaster County have a diagnosed behavioral health condition.

This, and a growing local population combined with a broader recognition of mental health’s impact on physical health drove a partnership between Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health and Universal Health Services to create a freestanding psychiatric hospital that enables wellness by providing strength- and evidence-based, trauma informed care.

The 126-bed unit houses six units including the County’s only adolescent unit, a general Adult Unit serving patients with a primary mental health diagnosis and co-occurring needs through Substance Abuse Education, a women’s trauma unit, a psych/med unit and an intensive adult unit.

The patient treatment programs include group and individual therapies, evidence based treatments such as Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing, Art and Music Therapy, Fitness/Movement Therapy, Aroma Therapy, Pet Therapy and Daily Meditation.

Patient rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art safety features that facilitate healing and compassionate care including: each unit featuring access to a courtyard with walking paths and outdoor therapeutic space, an indoor gymnasium, intentionally designed therapeutic environment that includes calming color palette, natural wall décor and art, and natural light throughout building design and a ligature resistant fixtures to help maintain patient safety.

“In general, this facility is designed to ensure patient and staff safety and security while maintaining a therapeutic environment that preserves a patient’s dignity, privacy, and comfort. We wanted to provide comforting and non-institutional environment,” said Bryn Heist, RH, CHC, senior regional project manager of design & construction at Universal Health Services, Inc.

The facility also has the ability to serve several different patient populations with differing levels of acuity.

The building is specifically designed to cater to these individualized populations by their respective Nursing Units. For instance, one unit caters to patients that have minor physical medical conditions along with behavioral conditions. This particular unit features wider corridors for patient bed transport, additional storage in patient rooms, and specialized wayfinding elements designed to assist patients who may be suffering from memory loss.

Additionally, the overall building layout facilitates movement of these patient populations between their respective Nursing Units and shared therapy/dining spaces while maintaining total separation of the populations. Certain units are set up to provide bed swing capability, so LBHH can respond to changing therapeutic needs within its community.

LBHH also features a building automation system (BAS), which provides the facilities team with real-time remote monitoring and control of a majority of the building’s mechanical and electrical systems. The BAS provides another tool for our team to manage and optimize building efficiency.

Universal Health Services selected Stengel-Hill Architecture (SHA) of Louisville, Ky with Warfel Construction of East Petersburg, Pa. selected as the General Contractor for the project. Warfel worked closely with UHS and SHA through both the design and construction processes.

“One of the more unique challenges of this project was the setting. LBHH is located in Lancaster, Pa., and we were tasked with providing a design that respects and reinforces the area’s rich historical urban fabric,” said Heist. “With the support of the local zoning authorities – and continued support of our neighbors throughout the construction process – we were able to successfully meet this challenge. The end result is a state-of-the-art facility that provides the best patient care and a handsome exterior that fits in with, and hopefully enhances, its surrounding environment.”

Construction on LBHH began in May 2017 and concluded in June 2018; with a soft opening on July 9, 2018.

MILWAUKEE — Construction on the Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton recently reached a significant milestone when the project completed its structural steel topping-off.

Slated for a spring 2015 completion, Minneapolis-headquartered HGA Architects and Engineers designed the 100-bed hospital and Turner Construction, headquartered in New York, is serving as construction manager on the project. As the first new hospital in the state of Georgia in more than 20 years, the new health care facility will bring a new level of patient care to the Greater Braselton community.

“The on-going evolution in health care delivery methods, technology, demographics and reimbursements is placing increasing incentive on hospitals to develop new ways to improve patient services,” said Kurt Spiering, AIA, vice president and principal of HGA’s Healthcare Practice Group, in a statement. “Community hospitals, in particular, are re-aligning their operational processes with a growing emphasis on accountable care. To prosper in the future, community hospitals are positioning themselves as leaders that can cost-effectively deliver quality care and services rivaling any larger hospital nationally. Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton is on the forefront of improving patient-centered services with a state-of-the-art community hospital that promotes safety, medical innovation and team-based care.”

Located on a 119-acre River Place campus, the new hospital will offer heart and vascular services orthopedics and neurosciences, cancer treatment, surgery and emergency services. Early in the planning stages, the design team identified seven guiding principles for NGMC Braselton:

• To create a total patient experience that is among the best in the world
• To use evidence-based principles to provide extraordinary safety and clinical outcomes
• To create a setting for physicians and staff that supports their effectiveness through coordinated team-based care
• To create a setting that is sustainable and advances the wellness and safety of patients, families, staff community and the environment
• To innovate through the creation of new ideas
• To create an overall health care destination “village” of which the hospital is but one piece

The design team also conducted a series of public forums, workshops and online surveys to identify the ideal patient experience and followed up with a series of Lean process transformation exercises with hospital staff to create operational practices that allow for smarter workflow.

“Rather than starting from a traditional programming method of designing from the outside in, we approached the project as clinical consultants, planning the clinical processes first and then the structure,” Spiering said. “We based every decision on a research-based approach in coordination with the NGHS Lean Six Sigma Team.”
