South Lake Hospital Breaks Ground on New Emergency Center

CLERMONT, Fla. — South Lake Hospital’s new emergency center celebrated its groundbreaking on Jan. 12 for the new $12 million, 30,000-square-foot facility in Clermont. South Lake Hospital, in affiliation with Orlando Health, is a not-for-profit health care organization. The new building will provide emergency and outpatient services when it opens this fall.

With the new building comes opportunity for employment. The new emergency center is expected to hire between 35 and 50 new employees, according to a statement by South Lake Hospital.

This portion of the hospital is part of a larger renovation project, which totals $50 million and incorporates other projects including an $8 million to $10 million freestanding emergency room and a 40,000-square-foot medical office building on 11 acres in the Four Corners area, plus an expansion to its main campus’ emergency department, according to the Orlando Business Journal.

The three-site expansion project was announced in early 2016. Working on the project is Charlotte, N.C.-based Little Diversified Architectural Consulting, serving as the architect firm of the satellite campuses, and Dallas-based HKS Architects is the architect firm of the main campus expansion, according to the Orlando Business Journal.

“We’re expanding our services so that patients in all areas of south Lake County have improved access points to health care,” said John Moore, president of South Lake Hospital, in a statement. “These plans are driven both by current needs and projected future needs, based on the accelerating growth of our county.”
