ORLANDO, Fla.—Skanska USA has announced the delivery of the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute, a state-of-the-art medical facility in Downtown Orlando. Located at the corner of Lucerne Terrace and Columbia Street, the combined inpatient and outpatient facility will be dedicated solely to the care of orthopedic patients.

Spanning 375,000 square feet, the project was completed in two phases with the first phase encompassing the delivery of a six-story, medical office pavilion boasting 12 cutting-edge operating rooms and the latest advancements in medical technology, including imaging services such as an ultrafast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with augmented reality. A 62-exam room clinic, also housed in the pavilion, offers walk-in orthopedic care along with a physical therapy space featuring sports simulators for athletes. Phase two included a seven-story facility featuring the state’s first orthopedic hospital with 10 additional operating rooms, 75 inpatient smart rooms and a bioskills lab.

ORLANDO—FCA, a leading New York and Philadelphia-based architecture and design firm, announced today that it has acquired legacy firm, Fred M. Humphrey & Associates. Together, the firms will share their regional presence, knowledge, and relationships to design spaces uniquely suited to the needs of those who use them.

“FCA is thrilled to have a firm with such a rich history in Central Florida join our team. With experience supporting medical institutions over the last several decades, Fred M. ORLANDO—Sweden-based international construction and development firm Skanska’s U.S. affiliate has signed a deal to construct the 371,000-square-foot Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute in downtown Orlando.

The $187 million medical pavilion and outpatient surgery center were designed by EYP Architecture & Engineering.  The design plans call for 75 inpatient rooms and 10 operating rooms spread out over eight stories of medical use space.  Additionally, an adjacent medical office building will host an additional 12 operating rooms when completed.

Portions of the $187 million construction project were already paid to Skanska, with $63.33 million set aside in the final quarter of 2020.

The outpatient surgery center is due to be finished near the end of 2022, with the orthopedic hospital itself coming online sometime the following year, which will add an estimated 500 jobs to the local economy.

In a recent statement, Michael C. Brown, executive vice president and general manager of Skanska USA’s building operations in Florida, said that his firm has partnered with Orlando Health on several other healthcare projects as the Southeast’s medical needs have increased over the years in line with an uptick in population.

“With this latest partnership, we will further enhance and grow the system’s state-of-the-art facilities to better serve patients in the Central Florida community,” Brown said.

Skanska’s other Florida projects include the Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital at Broward Health as well as Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers.

Skanska’s American operations brought in $7.6 billion of revenue in 2019 alone.  Its American headquarters are located in New York, with nearly 30 other satellite offices around the United States employing 8,000 professionals.
